Sometimes I really struggle to fall asleep. When I really can’t get to sleep, the problem gets worse. I get cross with myself and worry about how I’m going to cope the next day with very little sleep. I realised that lots of my readers might be interested in tips to fall asleep. I also thought lots of you might have helpful tips about how to fall asleep, so I asked the question and got lots of really helpful answers.

I also hadn’t realised how many ways to get to sleep there were. I thought that was kind of helpful as everyone is different and different things work for different people. There is bound to be a tip or trick here that you haven’t tried before and might just help you get a better night’s sleep. Some might just make you smile if you are reading this during a particularly bad sleepless night….

  1. No screens or electronic equipment at least an hour before bedtime.
  2. Use essential oils like lavender.
  3. No caffeine after 4pm.
  4. Take a relaxing bath before bed.
  5. Have a hot milky drink before bed.
  6. Get a set of ear plugs.
  7. Read a book.
  8. Don’t go to bed too late.
  9. Don’t eat a big meal in the evening.
  10. Get into a good bedtime routine.
  11. Use relaxation music.
  12. Have a good quality bed and bedding.
  13. Keep the bedroom cool, keep the window slightly open.
  14. Listen to white noise.
  15. Use black out blinds or similar window treatments to make the bedroom as dark as possible.
  16. Keep a notepad by the bed to write down things that might be bothering you.

  2. Some great tips. I’ve been trying to do the no screen before bed, but I’m too addicted to my phone! I’ve tried to do it every night with Osian, which means he misses in the night garden 🙁 xx

  3. I like these. Sleep is an issue in our house. I think Number 7 is the root of all the problems 😉 and possibly the coffee I just had (7pm) won’t help either! x
