Having discovered what a beautiful part of the world Devon is this year when I visited with Indie I am desperate to go back with the rest of the family next year.  I know that Brook will love the outdoors experiences as much as we did and the OH is always happy when we don’t have to fly.  As we want to visit for a family holiday this time round I’m already scouting out Devon holiday cottages for us to stay in to give us more room and flexibility.

Devon Beach Brixham

Once the holiday accommodation is booked and arranged, my thoughts quickly turn to things to do with the kids, and Devon is literally brimming with options for families. I’ve picked out five of the best places to take kids to in Devon, and I’m fairly sure no one will get bored with this holiday itinerary.

Wildwood Estcot, Devon

This is a family friendly day out in Devon packed with a range of indoor and outdoor activities.  It’s perfect for children of all ages who enjoy animals and adventure.  You are promised lots of great experiences including seeing wild cats, birds of prey and otters, as well as fantastic play areas and an indoor soft play if the weather lets you down a bit.  You can find our more in the Wildwood Estcot review from Otis and Us blog.

Seaton Tramway

Seaton Tramway

For me, I like to see where I’m going on holiday from as many angles as possible, and stepping on an old tram to explore the Devon countryside  really appeals to me.  Both my girls really love anything transport related and sitting on the top of a tram will be lots of fun for them and us I think.  The trams ride between Seaton, Colyford and Colyton with stops at their vintage stations which include cafes and play areas.  You can find out more about a family day out in this Seaton Tramway review.

Canonteign Falls

Devon is the perfect place to introduce your children to hiking, and Canonteign Falls is a fantastic outdoor adventure for all the family. Surprisingly enough, these waterfalls are manmade, but do not let that put you off as it’s a stunning area with wonderful views over Dartmoor National Park.

The Golden Hind, Brixham

When I visited Devon with Indie, we learnt lots about Sir Francis Drake during our visit to Buckland Abbey but didn’t get chance to explore The Golden Hind.  A visit to this famous ship will really help bring the story of this local explorer and his crew to life.  This Devon attraction is packed with interactive activities for children and is lots of fun and learning for the whole family.

The Golden Hind Devon

The Miniature Pony Centre, Moretonhampstead

Devon is particularly famous for it’s horse and ponies, but they can be both difficult to spot and approach in their natural environment.  The Miniature Pony Centre has made it onto our list of places to visit in Devon as it’s a great place to guarantee you and your family will get to see and interact with these beautiful animals.  There is also many other animals for you to see there and a lovely outdoor play area to give the kids somewhere to burn off their ice cream afterwards.

We are really looking forward to visiting these Devon attractions on our family holiday next year and I think they will all give Daddy and Brook will really enjoy them as first time visitors.  It will also be lovely to talk to Indie about returning to Devon and exploring our memories of the area with these new adventures.

A stunning part of the united kingdom

  2. My partner”s family live in Devon,so next time we visit,we will make a bee line for the Seaton tram and the Golden Hind. The Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth is a great day out for all the family too!

  3. We’ve had some great family holidays in Devon. We’ve always said that if we could guarantee sunshine for most days, we would always holiday there every summer.

  4. Devon is absolutely beautiful isn’t it. IT doesn’t even look like its part of the UK which makes it even more beautiful. I would have loved to have gone as a child and ran aimlessly through the sand and the ocean!
