If you haven’t already heard it’s #BritMumsLive this weekend.  If this had escaped your attention, then where on earth have you been?  Does your life not evolve around knowing what I’m going to be wearing, how many drinks I’ve stashed into my suitcase and whether I’ll be spending the entire time in the brand den 😉

No?  What do you mean?  There are actually other things going on in the world.  Oh right!  I see.  However, in a bloggers calendar, this has to be the biggest event of the year, and don’t get me wrong I’m super excited and incredibly privileged to be going but, oh my what a lot of hype goes along with it.  I really hope there isn’t a whole heap of anticlimax too!

Here’s my little survival guide for the newbie blogger, to avoid being berated by this social media frenzy and to have a good time, whether they choose to wear clothes or not! Because that’s what it’s all about, right?  It should be an experience, your experience and you deserve to have the BritMumsLive you want to have.

I’m going to BritMums Live

1. Don’t Worry About What Your Going To Wear

Perhaps this is a bit like telling the child not to press the red button, but honestly, don’t worry about it.  If style is your thing, awesome you’ll have the gifted outfit and you’ll look amazing.  I for one will probably be a little jealous, but I move on pretty quick.  If, like me, your more George than Armani there’s no point in going for a fashion overhaul now.  Be yourself and be comfortable, I’ve heard it gets pretty hot in the Brewery.

2. Don’t Worry About What Anyone Else Is Wearing

You’ve probably seen a stack of ‘what I’m wearing’ posts and overpacked suitcases by now, and there’s a part of me that wishes I embraced fashion in the same way but I’m 40, got 3 lots of baby weight to worry about and haven’t ironed one article of clothing since 2002.  The wonderful thing about the blogging community is that it is full of interesting and diverse people, that make interesting and diverse blogs.  Bloggers who talk about fashion, are bound to be, wait for it, you guessed it, fashionable.

3. Don’t Worry About The Agenda

I still haven’t looked at the agenda, I’m going to scan through it on the train and tick off the talks I’d really like to go to.  If some clash, I’ll see if there’s anyone going to another session I can swap notes with.  There’s always catching up with the #BritMumsLive feed afterwards for the highlights of what you have missed.  Go with the flow, I’ve spent blogging conferences chilling out with bloggers, and some taking in every session.  Both approaches work, but most importantly don’t have any regrets!

4. Don’t Worry About Being On Your Own

…because you won’t be for long!  Bloggers are very sociable creatures by definition.  If you haven’t already connect with people who are going.  Tweet them now, see about meeting up.  Go and say Hi if you recognise someone.  I’ll be over the moon if you pole up to me and introduce yourself, it’s awesome to be able to put the people to the blogs at events like this.

5. Don’t Worry About The State The House Is Gonna Be When You Get Home

This will be the first time Daddy has been in charge of the girls by himself over night, well 2 over nights in my case.  If I worried about the carnage he and the girls were going to cause, I probably wouldn’t go.  I know that when I turn up Sunday afternoon I probably won’t recognise my house, and don’t even get me started on the toys not going in the right boxes.  I’m glad it’s going to be a busy couple of days, as I really have not got to think about it.

If you’re going to Britmums, have the best time, and I’ll look forward to catching up with as many of you as possible!

  1. I’m really looking forward to meeting some other bloggers but I’m not great at starting conversations so I’m just going to go for it! #TheList

  2. What a super post!! You are exactly right! Ive been to Britmumslive 3 times, but not there this year and you’ve got it bang on. My advice to anyone going by themself is smile and dont be afraid to go up to people and chat. As you say, bloggers are pretty friendly and ready to chat about their/your blog.
