I’m really excited to share this week’s episode of the Zena’s Suitcase podcast with you. As you might already be aware last week I appeared on BritMums Facebook Live where we talked about all the exciting things you can do with kids in Spain. I was a great discussion featuring Carrie from Flying with a Baby, Jen Howze from Jenography and co-founder of BritMums and Susanna Scott from A Modern Mother and also co-founder of BritMums. I was feeling really inspired by our travel talk about visiting Spain that I decided
I’ve found myself talking to many families over the years about their first holiday abroad with kids. They often feel nervous about flying with a baby or young children and they are also keen to find the right destination. The family holiday becomes a very precious thing when you have kids as you want everyone to have a good time. It might even give the parents the chance to relax a bit! I always recommend a holiday in Spain in this scenario for so many reasons. Spain is so accessible
Spain is a very beautiful country and if you are considering studying in this here, you have many different options to choose from. There are many reputable universities dotted around which include Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. It can be very daunting making the decision to study in another country, but it doesn’t have to be as challenging as you might initially imagine. With the correct level of planning in advance, it could be a decision that could shape your future. Here are some reasons why studying in Spain should be

Spain is one of my favourite countries to visit because I love the culture, the food and the landscape. When I was invited to explore the region of Costa Barcelona I knew I had to accept, and I was excited to explore this region of Spain from the outset. I’m also really excited to share with you what I discovered and I don’t think you will be disappointed! Before I get into all the fantastic things we got to see and do in Costa Barcelona, I have a confession to
A holiday can be many different things. It can be exploring somewhere new, like our recent visits to Liverpool and York or our up and coming holiday to Costa Brava. A holiday can be about living in the lap of luxury in a 5* hotel or being waited on hand and foot aboard a luxury cruise ship. It can be lazy days by the pool or active adventures while enjoying the local scenery.
Sure, in an ideal world, our fitness levels would be at their peak when summer comes around. However, with the likes of Christmas, Easter and all of the celebrations in between, it’s often not possible. And if your fitness levels are currently pleasing on both an aesthetic and physical level, you’re likely to want to maintain your physique throughout summer. Of course, summer holidays are often the perfect excuse to unwind and rejuvenate away from the stresses and toils of the daily work and home life. But there are actually
It’s taken me a while to think about how I wanted to approach sharing our family holiday in Agadir. As a family, we had very mixed feelings about our experience in this part of Morocco and I feel that it’s really important for us to acknowledge that in this blog post. The girls had a lovely holiday, but there were some aspects of this holiday that we found challenging. We travelled to Agadir with our 4 and 6 year old daughters in February and we were very excited to be
You work hard all year round to support yourself and those that you love the most. So when it comes time to take a holiday, you want it to be an experience to remember! But how exactly can you achieve that goal? There are several aspects of planning a holiday and they all should be tackled one by one. Firstly, you should decide where you’ll be going. Secondly, you should decide on what time of year, or when you will be going. Thirdly, you should take into account activities and
Our planet is filled with extraordinary places, and extraordinary experiences, just waiting for us to come along and explore them! Unfortunately, however, not all of us can afford to just pick up and take off. Don’t lose hope! There are ways where you can not only see the world, but do it on a pretty tight budget! Traveling is something I honestly believe every human should experience, regardless of financial background. Through my experiences, I’ve been able to put together some pointers to help you save big on your next
Have you booked your February half term holidays yet? If the answer is no these ideas could be just what you are looking for. February is a great time to take a family holiday as prices are generally low to reasonable and it’s always nice to have something to look forward to isn’t it! The cold weather can also be a huge factor for booking a holiday with kids. My daughter has been asking when it’s going to be summer every day this week. The frosty mornings seem to be
Getting the best Euro rate on the high street can make a huge difference to your holiday cash if you are travelling from the UK or any where outside of the European Union. The Euro is widely used across Europe, being the official currency of 19 of the member states of the European Union. If you are planning on visiting a few countries in Europe then the Euro exchange rate is most certainly going to be important to you, but how do you get the best euro rate and where
Thank you so much for popping over to my blog from Instagram! It’s amazing to see you here and I’m thrilled that you’d like to find out more about what’s been happening on Zena’s Suitcase. Here’s a few of the things I’ve been talking about in my feed recently so I hope you find it all super interesting. Nickelodeon Treasure Hunt in Malta Now, did I mention to you that I was going to Malta? Well it was an incredible trip and surpassed all our expectations in so many ways.
I wasn’t going to write a review about the Monica Isabel Beach Club in Albufeira, but after our holiday in Portugal at this hotel I felt I should share our experience on the blog. I want families considering booking a Monica Isabel Beach All Inclusive holiday to make an informed decision before they decide to stay here whether they use Sunmaster, Jet2 or Thomas Cook. I booked a 5 night break to Monica Isabel Beach Blub Albufeira with Sunmaster Holidays for me and the girls for the first week of
Have you ever won a holiday? I have and it’s an awesome feeling! I won a trip to Spain and we had the best time. To be able to enjoy an extra family holiday that year was such a highlight and it’s partly what inspired me to start sharing travel giveaways with my readers. At the end of last year I shared a few posts after tracking down some great ‘win a holiday’ contents and they turned out to be a real hit. These holiday giveaways are from reputable websites
Travel for me is about visiting incredible new places. In the early part of my life I really didn’t travel very far, but I had this burning desire to see more of the world. The first time I stepped on a plane and left the UK was a life changing moment for me. I really didn’t know what I was going to find at the other end, but I knew it was going to be good. In all honestly we were heading to Spain for a beach holiday, so I
If you are about to have a new kitchen it’s a fantastic time to bring your love of travel into the home. Food is such an important part of travel for me that the kitchen seems the most obvious place to add some cultural inspiration from your holiday adventures. I’ve picked out 3 kitchen designs that really inspire me. I hope you can imagine cooking locally inspired dishes here but most importantly they will add a unique feel to your new room. Even if you are looking for cheap kitchens,
Currently in the news, there’s a bit of a strange political ordeal going on in Spain. It’s not something that has affected very much to Spain at the moment. However, what it has stirred are feelings of great pride in Catalonia. Regardless of your opinion on the Independence Movement, Barcelona is being talked about more than normal. That could be a strange thing to mention because Barcelona’s football team is always in the news. What the city has to offer and what it could be is something you should pay
Gifted Product Review Over the summer we were asked to review the Vango Edoras 500XL Air tent for the blog. We set ourselves the task of finding out if this was the best Vango tent for family camping? It was the perfect excuse to book a family camping trip to North Yorkshire and test out the Vango Airbeam tent, so we packed up our gear and off we went. The girls were really excited about their camping trip. They love being outdoors and having the freedom that comes with it. As
Collaborative Post Planning the perfect family vacation isn’t all that straightforward. You’ve got to find activities that will appeal to everyone — particularly to young children, should you have them, while also sticking to a budget. Maintaining a certain harmony and equilibrium that can withstand the frayed nerves that so often come with annual holidays is also key. There are many different things that people do in order to ensure the best family vacations for themselves. Some choose to hit the open road in luxurious motorhomes and wake up somewhere
This is a collaborative post With the nights getting darker and the distinct chill there is now in the UK I’m literally dreaming of winter sun holidays for the family. Winter sun holidays are just good for the soul, don’t you think? I love being able to take the kids out to play on the beach without worrying about the weather. Al fresco dining is still on the cards and being able to enjoy the outdoors is just easier. I find kids are just happier having the freedom of being
Travel, particularly in the summer holidays can be an expensive activity, yet for many parents, it is the most suitable time to go away due to the school holidays. There’s also sometimes a sense of pressure to keep up with the playground parents all discussing their break away, and you don’t want your children to feel left out. That said, not every family can afford a summer holiday abroad as now more than ever, travel to the most popular summer sun destinations within Europe is expensive. This is mainly because
Have you heard of Yelloh! Village before? If you have been reading the blog for a while you might remember that we went on holiday to Yelloh! Village Les Grands Pins in France last year and we made such wonderful memories together as a family so I’m really excited about today’s announcement on Zena’s Suitcase blog. Yelloh! Village are the purveyors of the outdoor luxury hotel and have 81 sites across France, Spain and Portugal. Their camp sites are renowned for great facilities and excellent services and we can certainly vouch
Following on from my last post about choosing an inside cabin when booking a cruise holiday, I thought it might be helpful to share with you why cruising is also a family friendly way to travel. If you’re a parent, you’ll know that travelling with tots in tow can be an uphill struggle but I can assure you that a family cruise can make life a whole lot easier. Just getting to the airport can be an arduous affair, then you’ve got to spend time waiting around for your flights.
I’m guessing that if you have come here to find out about things to do in Tenerife, you have already booked your family holiday, but just incase you need some ideas I also have a great article on the top all inclusive hotels on this beautiful island that you might like to check out too. If you are still deciding whether you should visit Tenerife, I hope reading this post will convince you that you will have a varied and interesting sunshine holiday here. Tenerife is such great destination for
Everyone in the family was super excited about visiting the Eden Project during our Cornwall road trip. For many years I’ve wanted to tick Eden Project, Cornwall’s most famous and iconic attraction, off my UK bucket list. During our Cornwall holiday I found out my husband felt the same way. The kids asked ‘what is the Eden Project’, and seeing as I’d found the best explanation on the Eden Project website, I told them ‘it’s the largest rainforest in captivity’, as well as some other interesting botanical components of course!
I don’t know about you, but to me time is precious and as a result I shop online for most things, including travel shoes to take on holiday. It seems like a pretty big risk as I also believe poor footwear can make or break a trip. As you will already know, I’m often chasing 2 small children around beaches or various attractions so there is very little time to put my feet up. In order to keep up with them I insist on good travel shoes for all types
One of my favourite countries to visit with the family is Spain. As well as the gorgeous beaches and warm weather I really love their food and attitude to family life. They love fresh ingredients and good old fashioned home cooked meals. I love how you will struggle to eat a processed diet in Spain and there is a distinct lack of fast food restaurants in the traditional towns and villages. I think it’s safe to say that this approach to food and family life is very similar across the
Over the years I’ve travelled quite a lot with just my kids as travel companions. I’ve been in both camps in that I was a single parent with my son for many years and now I’m married and we have 2 daughters with my current partner. When I went on holiday with my son, I had little choice but to travel single handed with him, otherwise we wouldn’t have gone very far at all. These days, I travel solo with the kids if Daddy can’t make the trip, usually because
I would definitely call myself curious by nature, and back in October I decided to reach out to Zena’s Suitcase followers on social media and ask them a few questions about their holiday planning for 2018. I was delighted to get so many responses and the information that everyone one shared with me was really interesting. If you were one of the people who completed my survey, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and I hope you enjoyed your virtual cake 🙂 When Do Families Book Their Holiday From
