Days Out

If you are visiting Berlin with or without kids then I would strongly recommend adding a visit to Zoo Berlin to your list of things to do.  You’ll find the Berlin Zoological Garden in Tiergarten and it’s easily accessible from the S-Bahn, U-Bahn and bus stops. Just look for the stop marked Zoologischer Garten in each case. I have been lucky enough to stay in two hotels near to Berlin Zoo, 25hours Berlin and Hotel Palace Berlin and it was on the second trip that I knew I had to visit

It was Indie’s birthday at the weekend, so we decided to head over to the Red Kangaroo Trampoline Park in Nottingham to celebrate.  We’ve not been to a trampoline park as a family before so this was a first for all of us. What is Red Kangaroo Trampoline Park Like? Getting to Red Kangaroo We drove to Red Kangaroo as it is on Blenheim Industrial Estate which is about 30 minutes from our house by car.  There is a bus stop about a 10 minute walk away if you want

Family Day Out at Twinlakes Last half term the girls had an inset day following the week off.  I went online and had a look at Twinlakes ticket prices, and because it was ‘off peak’ to them it was just £8.50 a ticket.  It was a no brainer really, I booked tickets for Indie, Brook and I and had my fingers crossed for a blue sky day for our family day out. How to Find Twinlakes Twinlakes is just 45 minutes from Nottingham, just outside Melton Mowbray.  It’s now in

Are you looking for places to visit Father Christmas in Nottinghamshire? If that is the case this is a great list to visit Santa near me.  Going to Santa’s Grotto is one of my favourite Christmas traditions and I find it’s a lovely way to keep the festive magic alive.  So if you want the best Santa experience you are going to find exactly what you are looking for in the list below. Where To See Santa in Nottinghamshire Santa Specials with the Great Central Railway Great Central Railway’s “Santa”

Drayton Manor’s Magical Christmas is back for 2018 and it’s the perfect day out for the festive season. We took Indie, 6 years old, and Brook, 4 years old, back to Drayton Manor Park after a 2 year break. I’m really not sure why we left it so long as it’s always been one of our favourite days out in the East Midlands. Indie and Brook were beyond excited about their day out before they even got through the turnstiles. There was a lot of singing, dancing and running and

Right readers! Perhaps you can help me out here.  How on earth did I not know about the huge savings that can be made on train travel and days out with the Family & Friends Railcard from National Rail?  I’m flabbergasted that I’ve been in the dark this long to be honest but fortunately this has changed and we now have a Railcard and I think we will busing it for many years to come. If you already have a Family & Friends Railcard you will know exactly what I’m

I start getting ready for Christmas in October, so you won’t be shocked to know that I like to know what to expect on a festive family day out. If you have a similar mindset and are thinking about a trip to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour with your resident Harry Potter fans, these are the things you need to know: You Need to Book Ahead Unlike standard London attractions where you can simply turn up and buy a ticket, you absolutely need to pre-book your studio tour, as entry to

As a Mum with an older child I totally understand that finding things to do with teenagers can be a challenge.  When kids get older they don’t seem to enjoy family time in the way they used to? Please do not be put off, as it’s still important to spend time together or get them out of their room at least.  It’s just about finding the right days out with teenagers and I’ve got a great list of ideas for you right here. I have been speaking to some of

I’m really not a huge fan of having a bored 4 year old and 6 year old at home over the summer holidays.  Can you relate?  We’ve actually been on the look out for some new days out near Nottingham to take Brook and Indie for this very reason. Our visit to Timber Festival in The National Forest reminded us about taking them to Conkers in Derbyshire, namely because it was straight across the road from the festival site and it sounded a lot of fun too.  Shortly after being

Brook and I headed to Pennywell Farm in South Devon looking forward to our day out with reasonable exceptions about what may lay ahead that day.  We’ve visited many farms over the years, and I thought we knew what to expect as we arrived at Pennywell that morning.  I should have known better, as Devon’s tourist attractions always surpass my exceptions and Pennywell Farm certainly was no exception to this.  I would probably be as bold as to say its one of the most fun farms in Devon to visit

On our recent visit to South Devon, we decided to go to Dartmoor Zoo, or Dartmoor Zoological Park as it’s officially known.  Brook loves animals so it made perfect sense to add a visit to the zoo to our holiday. During our visit to the zoo, we were also booked to have a private ‘Reptile and Bug Experience’, which we were so excited about.  As well as animals, Brook has become obsessed with insects, and snails in particular, so I had everything crossed that she would be able to meet

If you are planning things to do with kids in Bristol any time soon, then I really think that a visit to the SS Great Britain should make it to the top of your list. We were lucky enough to visit recently with the girls, and were completely inspired by what turned out to be a fun and interactive day out for all the family. The walk towards the SS Great Britain was perfect for setting the scene for our day out.  We made our way from The Bristol Wing

Visiting Devon gave us as a family the chance to learn more about the fascinating Jurassic Coast and the incredible history and geology connected to this beautiful part of the UK.  Seaton Jurassic is an attraction I really think you should add to your list of things to do in Devon if you are keen to learn more about the dinosaurs that once lived here during prehistoric times.  Seaton Jurassic is a hands on and interactive exhibition that children of all ages will enjoy.  Brook who is 3 years old,

For our last full day in Devon we decided to visit Wildwood Escot for some outdoor adventure with the girls. After speaking to Claire at Andrewshayes Holiday Park this Devon attraction sounded perfect for us. It was close by and it sounded like another unique place to visit. We discovered that Devon has lots of interesting things to do during our visit, and it’s worth taking a look at Devon’s Top Attractions website as it’s packed with ideas and inspiration for your Devon holiday.  Wildwood Escot is mainly an outdoors attraction

Kids and transport go so well together, so it seemed obvious for us to include a visit to Seaton Tramway on our recent holiday to Devon.  If you are staying at Andrewshayes Holiday Park, it literally is on your doorstep. A really good option for visiting this Devon attraction is to drive to the tram station at Colyton and catch the tram to Seaton for a fantastic fun filled family day out. Seaton Tramway Review We left the car at Colyton in the free car park and headed into the

Our family love boat trips. They give us a different perspective on the place we are visiting and we get to enjoy our holiday at a completely different pace. Devon is literally perfect for boat trips, and we joined Stuart Line Cruises for their Jurassic Coast Tour during our family holiday last month. We joined the boat trip in Exmouth and I’ll be honest in that we had literally minutes to board before the boat departed. This is totally my fault for not giving us enough time to get there

I’m sure that you’ve realised by now that our holiday to Cornwall was literally packed with fun things to do.  I’m going to share a week long travel guide to staying in Cornwall shortly, but before I get to that post I’ve got one more family day out to share with you.  While we were staying at Porthleven Holiday Cottages we travelled down to Gweek to visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. This wasn’t just any visit to see the seals, as we were going to be enjoying a very special

Everyone in the family was super excited about visiting the Eden Project during our Cornwall road trip. For many years I’ve wanted to tick Eden Project, Cornwall’s most famous and iconic attraction, off my UK bucket list.  During our Cornwall holiday I found out my husband felt the same way.  The kids asked ‘what is the Eden Project’, and seeing as I’d found the best explanation on the Eden Project website, I told them ‘it’s the largest rainforest in captivity’, as well as some other interesting botanical components of course!

During our family holiday in Cornwall we decided to spend some time exploring the beautiful town of Falmouth.  Falmouth’s heritage has been largely shaped by it’s relationship with the sea and as such it’s the obvious home for the UK’s National Maritime Museum.  It made perfect sense for us to take the girls here to learn a little more about the highs and lows of living so close to the Atlantic Ocean and they were really excited about spending the day here to learn more about life in Cornwall. Is The

Before our visit to Pirates Quest in Newquay, I thought I had best prepare the girls for what might lie ahead.  As they are only 3 and 5 years old, they do find some things scary and I didn’t want this to spoil their experience at this Cornwall attraction. We talked about how pirates wore different clothes and maybe even looked a bit dirty long ago.  Some of the history that surrounds pirates is of course fact, but it was easier to tell the girls that the Pirates Quest experience

Cornwall is a really beautiful part of the world, and we are going to be spending half term getting to know the area a little bit better.  I’ve been very busy putting out travel plans together and I’ve found the very best activities to keep the kids entertained, even when the weather is plotting against us. It could well rain during our holiday, but I’m determined that the weather will not stop us enjoying our family holiday in Cornwall.  There’s actually plenty to see and do in the area, even

Having discovered what a beautiful part of the world Devon is this year when I visited with Indie I am desperate to go back with the rest of the family next year.  I know that Brook will love the outdoors experiences as much as we did and the OH is always happy when we don’t have to fly.  As we want to visit for a family holiday this time round I’m already scouting out Devon holiday cottages for us to stay in to give us more room and flexibility. Once

On our final day in Hamburg my daughter and I headed across town from the Holiday Inn we were staying at to find Tierpark Hagenbeck (Hamburg Zoo).  We managed the bus and subway journey just fine, until an over helpful passerby tried to put us on the wrong S Ban. It was quickly resolved and we were soon heading in the right direction in time for our appointment with Sabina who was going to be giving us a guided tour that day. Despite being a cold November day, the weather

It was pretty grey and damp when we arrived in Hamburg, so I was really pleased that the first activity we had planned was a visit to Chocoversum in the heart of the city’s historic centre.  If you are looking for things to do when it’s raining in Hamburg, Chocoversum is a great place to put at the top of your list as it’s inside AND it’s all about chocolate.  Everyone loves chocolate now, don’t they? My 3 year old daughter and I joined an English speaking tour at Chocoversum which

When it comes to keeping teenagers entertained, we know it can be a bit of a challenge. It’s inevitable, unfortunately, that they’ll grow out of the activities that used to get them excited and the adventures that used to get them bouncing out of bed on the weekends soon become a thing of the past.  Help is on hand with this list of things to do with teenagers in Bristol and Cardiff, so we will have you enjoying a family day out again in no time. Chances are you’ve been

On the day well left Camp Katur and our little Hobbit House on the Camp Hill Estate we decided we would go and explore Hackfall Woods near Masham.  We thought it would be a nice idea to take a little walk before the 3 hour drive back to Nottingham. Now, it’s safe to say that I didn’t do my research very well and I didn’t really know what I was letting myself and my 5 year old daughter in for when we pulled into the tiny carpark near Masham.  I thought we

Our weekends really do go from one extreme to the other in this house.  One week we might be off on a super exciting weekend away or another we might be in the house juggling looking after the kids with a long list of household chores to catch up on.  It’s probably not to far off how things happen in your house, is it? This weekend, we stayed close to home, but I was not going to let cleaning and laundry take over our lives.  Sundays are always off to

Even when the weather takes a turn for the worse, the family still needs a good day out to lift the spirits. If you are looking for places to visit or things to do with the kids this Autumn, I’ve got 5 tried and tested family days out I think you will love. Drayton Manor Park Drayton Manor Park’s More Trick Than Treat event is back for another year between 14th and 26th October.  Thomas Land and the rest of the theme park will be transformed for lots of spooky
