One day my world changed. It still looked the same from the outside, I had my amazing husband, my wonderful children and one on the way but something was different and it was never going to go back how it was.
Things should have been rosy shouldn’t they. My glass was very much half full and some. But still, I was left with a hole that needed filling somehow. I didn’t have a clue how I was going to do it. I was fragile in my hormonal and pregnant state and my brave face was running for the hills. The thought of being left observing lives going by on Facebook was filling me with total dread. What the f*** was I going to do.
Then I scratched the surface of something that opened up a world of possibilities and beautiful people who wrote about their lives, and more on the net. Where on earth had blogging been all my life, I’d completely missed the invite to this party! I had no sense of what I was doing or where I was going and there will definitely be a post called ‘the things I wish I knew before I started blogging’ one day, but it was a journey that I liked the look of, so I jumped on the train.
I’ve posted, I’ve tweeted and I’ve connected with a group of amazing people who have a powerful and influential voice. I’ve even posed whilst breastfeeding with Vicky from Honest Mum, I’m not sure I’m going to forget that in a hurry! It’s not necessarily what I have done that makes me excited about blogging, it’s the possibilities and surprises it might will have in store for me. I’ve already coordinated a local blogging event, yeah me!!
Now is such an exciting time to be in the blogosphere, and if any of you out there are losing your mojo and thinking about jumping of the train. Don’t! Stick with it. Put those hours in as it is going to pay off. PR’s are taking us and our medium seriously. Know your worth, your a voice speaking to a captivated audience that knows you and trusts what you have to say. Brands want a piece of that!
Your audience will only get bigger as people spend more and more time surfing the net. The average person is knocking up nearly 3 hours a day on their smart phone. This is and will dramatically change how advertising budgets are targeted going forward. Think of all those parents whiling away the small hours while nursing sick or hungry children and how they keep themselves awake. We all know it as we’ve all done it!
So this weekend I went to my first ‘real’ blog event. I didn’t plan my sessions, I just went with the flow. My calling card was definitely my little baby girl who got more than her fair share of attention. I enjoyed listening to some amazingly talented and charismatic women who spoke with passion, dedication and credibility. I came away with a sense of, ‘I want to be in this club’, no matter what happens. I might have missed out on some photography tips but I came away knowing I want to get better at this shit and that so far, even though I’m busy with a baby and a toddler, maybe I wasn’t doing such a bad job after all.
So I’m not throwing whole heap of tips at you, or a ‘this is how you get more readers’ kind of post. This is more of a ‘believe and you will achieve’ kind of message. I definitely believe after #BCUK so thank you Tots00 and the team for an amazing day and to all the great women I met!
