Embarking on a family getaway is always an exciting prospect, especially when it involves immersing oneself in the beauty of nature and engaging in thrilling activities.

Recently, my 9-year-old daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at the Walesby Forest Activity Centre, an oasis of adventure nestled in the heart of the picturesque Nottinghamshire countryside.

Our two-night camping escapade was filled with unforgettable moments, exhilarating challenges, and a chance to bond as a family.

While there were a few minor hiccups along the way, our overall experience was nothing short of extraordinary.

Accommodation and Facilities:

Our camping experience at Walesby Forest Activity Centre commenced with a tent-only pitch that provided a comfortable and peaceful space for us to set up camp.

The campsite was thoughtfully designed, with ample space between pitches, ensuring a sense of privacy and tranquility.

However, it’s important to note that the toilet block facilities were somewhat lacking.

While they were functional, there were better options available on the site that offered a more pleasant experience.

This minor setback was easily overshadowed by the wealth of activities and natural beauty that surrounded us.

Activities Galore:

One of the standout features of Walesby Forest Activity Centre is its extensive array of activities, tailored to cater to adventurers of all ages.

The activity pass granted my daughter access to a wide range of experiences that left her brimming with joy and excitement.

There’s a range of different activities available each day, which changes depending on the numbers of people staying at the site.

From the assault course that tested her physical prowess to the exhilarating indoor climbing sessions, the daring 25ft and 45ft climbing walls, every activity was a testament to the centre’s commitment to providing thrilling and safe adventures.

At each activity, my daughter was given a full safety briefing and explanation of how to get the best from her experience.

Safety equipment was also provided at each activity.

I’m also delighted to say that all the staff we encountered were friendly and incredibly helpful.

The centre also offered opportunities to hone skills like archery and air rifles, allowing my daughter to tap into her inner marksman.

Laser tag provided a high-energy experience, while the low ropes course and crate stacking challenged her balance and strategic thinking.

A refreshing swim in the on-site pool, followed by a serene canoeing session, added a perfect aquatic touch to our adventure.

Activity Highlights:

• Assault Course: The assault course was a fantastic way for my daughter to channel her energy and test her physical limits. She navigated through various obstacles with enthusiasm, boosting her confidence and determination.

• Indoor & Outdoor Climbing: The indoor and outdoor climbing sessions were a hit, especially the nerve-wracking ascent up the overhanging climbing wall. Trained instructors ensured safety and provided guidance, making it an accomplishment she’ll always treasure.

• Archery and Air Rifles: These activities were an excellent opportunity for my daughter to learn precision and focus. The skilled instructors were patient and encouraging, making the experience enjoyable and educational.

• Swimming and Canoeing: The chance to cool off in the pool and paddle along a gentle stream added a refreshing twist to our adventure. These activities offered a well-rounded balance of excitement and relaxation.

• Laser Tag and Low Ropes: The fast-paced laser tag game and the low ropes course brought an element of teamwork and strategy to our experience. It was heartwarming to see my daughter collaborate with newfound friends.

• Crate Stacking: Crate stacking was a unique challenge that required both physical coordination and mental acuity. It was a proud moment as my daughter stacked crate upon crate, reaching impressive heights.

Culinary Experience:

While the daytime adventures were undoubtedly the highlight of our stay, the evening experience left something to be desired.

The closure of the kitchen in the evenings was disappointing, limiting our dining options.

Unfortunately we hadn’t packed our cooking equipment for this short getaway, so we dined off site both evenings.

As a result, we discovered the Italian Kitchen at The Carpenters Arms in Walesby. This did turn into a real highlight to our trip, as they served the most incredible Italian food we’ve eaten in a long time.

Our sojourn at Walesby Forest Activity Centre was a family adventure that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

The opportunity to partake in a diverse range of activities, all within the stunning backdrop of the Nottinghamshire countryside, created memories that we will treasure for a lifetime.

While a few aspects, such as the limited evening dining options and the state of the toilet block, left room for improvement, they did little to diminish the overall magic of our experience.
