This week has been a bit of a rubbish week. My head had been well and truly buried in the sand when the letter arrived. There had also been an email.

With head well and truly ripped out of its hole of denial, it seems that it is decision time. Life is about to change one way or another and for good. No more of this limbo I’ve been suspended in for far too long. Whatever the outcome, it will be for the best I’m sure, but it’s not been a pleasant journey, I can only hope the destination is worth it.

I have been emotional, my sleep has been rubbish and my tonsils always like to stick their two penneth in when stress levels are high.

I just feel like I’m stuck in a rut with no idea how to get out of it. I don’t know which direction to go in and my head is all over the place, as well as my thoughts. I’m at the place where I should probably ask for help, but how do you ask for help without feeling worse?

I’ve just felt pretty down to be honest, not an ideal place with a family to take care of.

Faced with sitting in the house or taking the camera out I packed little Pudding up in her pram and decided a walk would make me feel a whole heap better and might encourage some sleep for the baby.

There’s a canal across the road from my house, and for some reason I never walk along it. It’s not a logical route to anywhere for me, but it’s a pleasant detour all the same. Hoping it would give me some photo opportunities, today I went along it for a short stretch, and here’s what I came up with.

Grantham Canal

It was a bright, sunny day and it was interesting using the canal as a subject. I love how the blues came out in the water, making an otherwise dirty canal, look sparkly and almost clean.

Lady Bay

It looks like it goes on forever, but this walk is literally a few hundred yards long. The picture benefits from having more of the sky in it, but I think I might have gone a little too far the other way.

Duck

I desperately want a good duck photo, but there’s no creeping up on them when you have a pram and a tired baby in tow. This little lady saw me coming and went just out of focus as I snapped. I will keep trying, cos I love those ducks.

Snowdrops

I saw a lovely snowdrop photo a few weeks ago on OneDad3Girls #MySundayPhoto link up, and wanted to practise. It was this one from City Coastal Life & Style. Trying to get the right angle is tricky, but I like the soft focus background. It’s just a shame my snowdrops are looking a little forlorn.

field of crocus

We cut through the park also, and I love this sea of crocuses. I saw a lady taking shots the other day, and I’m not one to be left out. I was pretty happy with my effort.

West Bridgford Registry Office

I also pass what used to be the registry office in West Bridgford, on most of my visits to the shops. I probably walk round here at least once a week. I was married here nearly 4 years ago.

I love that it’s on my doorstep as it makes me smile whenever I see it. Sadly it’s been sold now, so there won’t be any weddings in the park for a while at least, but rumour has it it’s going to be a hotel, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t get a wedding licence.

It made me feel so much better getting out and playing with my new toy. There’s still change afoot, but things seem more positive after spending sometime outdoors. I’m really enjoying getting to know my DSLR, and am probably in danger of being a camera bore, sometime soon, if not already.

What do you do to cheer yourself up when life throws you some curve balls?

  1. Chin up lovely lady – we love you! You’re an amazing person, who gives so much. Mummy’s here if you need a chat. Your photos are fantastic – honestly, really lovely. Lots of love Ickle Pickle & Mummy x x

  2. Ever thought of a ‘Happy Box’ ? I’ve recently started mine; it’s got things like a photo of my wedding, one of my lovely grandchildren, the ceramic tile with Princess’s newborn footprint on it, my great-grandmother’s brooch, a bracelet given to me by a now-deceased friend……. and other things as I think of them. Whenever I feel down, I can open my box and remind myself how great my life is, or how proud of myself I can be.
This idea was given to me in a workshop I was involved in, and it’s one I’m happy to pass on ☺

  3. Sending love and hugs xxx I find getting out is fantastic therapy, Toby and I walk for miles each week and I’d be lost without it xxx

Those are so beautiful photos, the one of the sea of flowers and registry office are stunning.
I too try to get outdoors when I am feeling down, I do find that it helps a lot.

  8. Hope things will be better and this is what I do too when staying at home makes me uneasy. #binkylinky

  9. I would do the same and go for a walk. Somehow the combination of blue and green works wonders on me. And you literally step away from your troubles, as it is the case that you think about your issues at home.
Fresh air (well, London air in a park) is always so uplifting. And I am a firm believer in taking my toddler out for a walk at least once a day, so going out also earns me brownie points, to make me feel even better.
