It’s been hard to ignore the reports of utter chaos at airports in recent times. Delayed or cancelled flights, lost luggage, confusing security queues and limits on passenger numbers are all part of the reality of flying abroad this summer.

The last thing you need on a family holiday is to tackle this sort of stress before you’ve even arrived at your destination. Many people are opting instead for a staycation, as the UK has an abundant offering of family-friendly places to visit this summer.

Ryde, Isle of Wight

As Ryde was a favourite of Queen Victoria’s, this location offers a great opportunity for a classic British beach holiday along a striking seafront Victorian promenade. Grab your bucket and spade… but leave the cage crinoline at home.

You’ll need to take the ferry to reach the island, but this is easily done for both foot passengers and those in cars. In fact, arriving by boat can make you feel like you’ve had the adventure of going abroad, which is a plus for many families looking to make the travel process exciting for little ones.

Jurassic Coast

Spanning 95 miles between Ocrombe Point in Devon and Old Harry Rocks in Dorset, this is a great road trip for dinosaur and fossil enthusiasts, both young and old. It’s considered a special region due to having an unusually wide range of geological materials from different prehistorical periods.

Head to Lyme Regis, famously associated with British palaeontologist Mary Anning, to get the family fossil hunting. Be sure to stop by the Spyway Dinosaur Footprints to wow the kids with the tracks of one of the biggest creatures to ever roam the Earth – brachiosaurs.

Talacre Beach Resort, Wales

An exclusive resort situated by golden sands, there’s something for every member of the family to enjoy. It’s known for its outstanding facilities, with a jacuzzi, indoor heated pool and onsite arcade just a few of the many entertainment options.

If you do care to venture offsite, there’s plenty to do in the surrounding area. Historical landmarks, outstanding natural beauty and the nearby town of Chester mean you’ll find something new to do every time you visit a holiday home in North Wales

Windermere, Lake District

If you have a beloved family dog, you can bring the entire family (fur and all) to a dog-friendly holiday in the Lake District.

The area has an abundance of waterfalls and hills to explore, alongside a working steam train and plenty of eateries that will welcome pups and children alike. The World of Beatrix Potter is a popular nearby attraction that will offer parents a healthy dose of nostalgia while kids enjoy all the excitement of much-loved characters.

Make sure you hop aboard a cruise on the famous Lake Windermere to feel the majesty of the open water before you go!
