Cape Town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa, thanks to the specular sights, sounds, food, and people.

If it isn’t on your travel list already, here are 10 reasons why you should visit the Mother City.

The Beaches

Firstly, if there was ever a time to pack your collection of bikinis, it would be when you visit Cape Town.

Packed with some of the most beautiful beaches in the Southern Hemisphere, it is the perfect spot for a Summer holiday in the sun.

Plus, you don’t have to stick to the most famous and popular beaches either, just outside of the city centre lies plenty of beaches that are quiet and calm, and far away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist hotspots.

The Weather

Secondly, Cape Town’s weather is incredible almost year-round.

Barring a few colder days and some rain in the Winter, you can expect medium to high temperatures almost throughout the year.

This means there is not a “bad time” to visit Cape Town, and you would have to get quite unlucky for bad weather to ruin your entire holiday.

Food

Whether it be a traditional braai, or a meal at one of the many world-class restaurants around the city, Cape Town offers some of the most delicious food around, thanks to its rich and diverse history.

Taking inspiration from European, Malay, Indian, Asian, and traditional South African cuisines, you can easily be eating something brand new and different for every meal of your holiday, from all four corners of the globe.

Festivals

Whether it be music, wine, food, or culture, Cape Town is home to many festivals every year.

Even if there isn’t one in the city centre, a quick drive along either coast will quickly get you to one.

If festivals aren’t for you, there are also plenty of markets that are held weekly, or a couple of times a month, which allow you to experience traditional South African culture, and enjoy a cold beer with a delicious meal.

Table Mountain

A holiday to Cape Town isn’t complete without taking in the spectacle that is Table Mountain.

You can see it from the moment you leave the airport, and there is so much to do there besides just admiring it.

You are able to take the cable car up to the top for breathtaking views, you can hike it if you are up for a challenge, and you can also paraglide your way back down again, landing at the gorgeous Seapoint Promenade.

Wildlife

As with the rest of South Africa, there is no shortage of wildlife in and around Cape Town.

You head out to sea to go whale watching, or take a boat ride to Seal Island, and hopefully catch a glimpse of one of the many Great White Sharks that call the area home.

If you head out from the city, you can find wildlife parks and sanctuaries scattered across the land, with many having amazing hotels for you to stay at.

Outdoor Adventures

There are plenty of outdoor pursuits to enjoy when visiting Cape Town.

Besides heading to the beach, there are countless hiking and walking trails, with the beautiful Newlands Forest just a short drive away.

For something a bit more unique, you can take a sidecar tour around the coast, hop on a Red Bus for a multi-hour tour that takes you all the way to the Winelands, or rent a Shelby Cobra for the day and enjoy the wind in your hair as you take a drive wherever your heart desires.

The Winelands

Speaking of the Winelands, the Cape is famed for its incredible wines, and the Winelands, located near Stellenbosch, is a must-visit for those looking for a sip of the good stuff. Plus, there is far more to do than just enjoy wine.

With countless historical sites, hotels, restaurants and activities, spending a couple of days exploring this area is the best way to do it.

History

As mentioned earlier, due to its mix of cultures, Cape Town, and South Africa, as a whole, are packed with history.

From old but important suburbs, to museums and tours, history-buffs out there won’t be short of things to see and do.

Value for Money

Finally, and arguably one of the main reasons Cape Town is so popular, is the fact that it offers incredible value for money.

When using foreign currency, especially the Pound, Euro, or Dollar, almost everything is affordable.

If you have a healthy travel budget, you won’t have to miss out on anything, and you can make the most of every day you are in the city. Plus, travel isn’t that expensive either, meaning it is quite possible to make Cape Town your base and travel around the country.

In conclusion, these are only a few of the reasons why you should visit Cape Town.

No matter what you like or what you are looking to get out of a holiday, the Mother City will offer everything you want, and so much more.
