After a very early flight to Berlin, and more coffee than was probably sensible, I caught the bus from Berlin Schönefeld Airport to Alexanderplatz in search of the Hampton by Hilton Hotel, where I was due to be staying for the weekend. I was incredibly early for check in, but I wanted to drop off my bags before heading into Berlin City Centre to begin exploring the sights.

The bus dropped me off in the main square of Alexanderplatz, and I chose to walk the 5 minutes or so to the hotel in an effort to try and wake myself to get ready for the day ahead.  If you have a bit too much luggage to walk to the hotel, don’t worry as you could hop on the tram which would take you the rest of the way.  There are a number of tram stops right outside the hotel and if you have invested in the Berlin Welcome Card then you will have access to all public transport during your stay.

When I arrived at the hotel, I think the receptionist noticed the bags under my eyes as well as the ones I was carrying.  She greeted me with a huge smile and told me that my room was in fact ready so I could go and settle in.  She also invited me to come back down for some breakfast which was still being served at the hotel.  I told you I was early!

The first thing that hit me was how light and airy the hotel reception, lounge and restaurant were.  There was lots of space for a number of guests to make themselves comfortable regardless of whether they were eating or wanting to catch up on some work or just hang out with friends. In fact all of these things were happening in various parts of the hotel entrance which made for a lovely welcoming atmosphere.

I popped up to my room to unpack and I accepted the gracious invitation to get some food (and more coffee) before heading out to explore Berlin.  Considering I wasn’t officially meant to check in until that afternoon, I was impressed that the hotel was kind enough to offer this, and I decided to move my plans for the day forward slightly and just relax in the hotel a little as I knew I was in for a long day, and quite possibly a late night.

Hampton by Hilton offer clean, modern, fuss free hotel rooms and it was the perfect place to stay for my solo trip to Berlin.  My room followed the light and airy theme from the hotel’s entrance with full length windows and white curtains.  I was also pleased to find everything in the room that I needed for a city break in Berlin.

The bed was very comfortable, and I was looking forward to snuggling into it after a late night at the CHAMÄLEON Theatre  to see their latest show, Finale.  The flat screen TV perfectly positioned at the end of the bed was certainly going to come in handy too.

Seeing as my computer goes everywhere with me, the desk and chair was also a welcome addition to the room and the arm chair was the perfect spot for catching up on a little social media on my phone.  The room wasn’t the biggest I’ve stayed in but the space available was used very well indeed.  For example, the door to the shower room was also the sliding door to the wardrobe, so no doors swung out into the room.

The shower room was very well presented and exceptionally clean.  White fluffy towels were provided as well as tissues, soap and the full compliment of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. It served well when it came to getting ready for a night out in Berlin and for the much needed wake up shower the next morning.

The next day I got to fully appreciate the hotel breakfast at Hampton by Hilton and was very impressed with their waffle making machines and range of cooked and continental breakfast. Breakfast is included in your stay at the Hampton by Hilton and so is access to a reasonably fast WiFi service.  If you are feeling the need to enjoy a little exercise after breakfast, there is also a fitness room provided at the hotel, but sadly I didn’t get chance to use this.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Hampton by Hilton in Alexanderplatz and think that it is the perfect choice for a city break to Berlin.  It’s in an excellent location with good access to the public transport network.  I found the service to be excellent and I really enjoyed the look and feel of the room as well as the public areas of the hotel.  The quality of the breakfast was also excellent and I was even more impressed that I got to enjoy it twice, even though I was only booked in for one night!

I was provided with a complimentary at Hampton by Hilton in Alexanderplatz Berlin City Centre in exchange for this post but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
