5 Ways To Make Your Home Unique

Home is where the heart is and no matter where you go to for work, you can’t wait to return home. You feel the most comfortable in your home and it is where you feel free to express yourself. Of course, all of us have a general idea of how we want our dream home to look like. Unfortunately, not all of us are experts in the field of interior designing. Luckily, I am are here to help you out. Without beating about the bush any further, here are 5 ways to make your home unique.

Add More Pillows

Pillows can be expertly used for two major purposes. In addition to giving comfort, pillows can also be used to punch-up the elegance factor, giving a cozy, layered feeling to your rooms. If you want your home to appear plush and elegant, we would recommend you to add plenty of large, overstuffed pillows to your home. However, you shouldn’t skimp on the pillow inserts; we would always advise you to go for down-filled pillows.

Upgrade Your Lighting

The lighting really makes a massive difference to your home. If you have standard lighting fixtures in your home, you should seriously consider having them upgraded to designer light fixtures. The designer light fixtures can work exceptionally well at not only making your home appear more elegant, but also unique. I would also suggest that you opt for unique pieces. And, you can start your search at second-hand shops and flea markets.

Choosing Hardware Finishes

When choosing hardware finishes, we would always advise you to opt for unique pieces. If you want to make your home appear unique, you should stop shopping at home improvement stores immediately. Although the pieces found in the home improvement stores are cost-effective, they are rather cheap-looking and of poor quality. Instead, you should start your shopping spree at antique shops, flea markets, and smaller hardware stores etc.

Focus On Window Treatments Too!

Window treatments are, arguably, one of the cheapest ways to make your home appear more unique. When selecting window treatments, I would suggest you pass see-through materials. Instead, you should focus on elegant materials such as linen, cotton, and natural silk. If you are not keen on draperies, you can instead opt to install wood blinds or woven bamboo shades. The options are plenty!

Upgrade Your Bathroom Suite

A bathroom is a quiet place where you get to relax and wind down after a tiring day at the office. So, why shouldn’t you focus on upgrading your bathroom suite? Acquiring a bathroom suite is also comparatively cheaper than purchasing different bathroom components separately. Do you want your bathroom to evoke the appearance of a Victorian or Edwardian bathroom? Or, do you prefer contemporary suite styles that feature the latest modern amenities? You really have multiple options to choose from when choosing a bathroom suite.

Fantastic tips – I love adding a new or different rug to a room to make a difference on a budget 🙂

Fab list. We are currently in the process of decorating our home. It seems like such a huge task but it will all be worth it in the end. My tip… get some bookshelves up. A home is always more welcoming and homely with a well stocked bookshelf! It’s always a topic of conversation too, when people come round 🙂 xx

I really wish that I could have my own home so that I could create my own bathroom suite that would be an absolute slice of heaven. A good lighting fixture is a great way of making your home unique as well!

We’re upgrading out bathroom now and I really hope it’s going to make such a difference. I can’t wait to have a bath again. I don’t think I could possibly get any more pillows though, my fiance already goes crazy as it is hehe!

Soft furnishings make such a difference. At the moment our house has more of an air of clutter and a kind of toy-room vibe. I think I need to incorporate some of your tips!

I love the advice “you should start your shopping spree at antique shops, flea markets, and smaller hardware stores etc”. This is me all over! I have just moved into a new home and am in the process of doing it up, so have been scouring charity shops for furniture – it doesn’t bother me that they don’t match, I like the quirkiness x

I agree with all of these tips! Lighting is so important in how a home feels; I love lots of natural light, but warm lights in the evening so the house feels cozy. I think a bathroom is such an important place too – there’s nothing more cozy than a bubble bath in a lovely bathroom!

I would love a new bathroom, ours is looking a bit tired now. I think light fittings can really change a room and make it feel so much more homely.

Some fantastic tips here. Pillows and lights for us too! I love trying to make my home look nicer – although I’m often fighting a losing battle with a 2 year old!

I love your tips. We’ve just updated our bathroom and it does look really unique. I also love pillows and changing them up often can really keep your house looking fresh, can’t it? 🙂 x
