Ad – Written in Partnership with Keetoo app I do love visiting London with the family for the day, but when there are 4 of you to consider, the cost of tickets to attractions and eating out can soon mount up. On our recent trip to London, we were asked to try out Keetoo, a new money saving London travel app, during our day out. This post is all about our experience of using Keetoo and the money we saved on our London travel. Using the Keetoo App to Visit
Hundreds of people visit London for business or leisure every single day. We are huge fans of day trips and short breaks to England’s capital as it’s brimming with culture and lots of things to do. It’s also true that residents leave London for other countries for exactly the same reasons. Travel is a popular pastime with many Londoners given the access they have to train and air travel. The Eurostar gives easy access to Europe and airports like Heathrow and Gatwick to name but a few open the door
When I travel to London with kids I know that at some point we are all going to need a little pick me up. On my recent trip with Indie I new the perfect place for us to go. I booked us a table for a visit to Choccywoccydoodah in Seven Dials, near Covent Garden as I thought it would make for a lovely pitstop for us both. It is the most famous chocolate cafe London has to offer after all. We had been up very early that morning so I
Right readers! Perhaps you can help me out here. How on earth did I not know about the huge savings that can be made on train travel and days out with the Family & Friends Railcard from National Rail? I’m flabbergasted that I’ve been in the dark this long to be honest but fortunately this has changed and we now have a Railcard and I think we will busing it for many years to come. If you already have a Family & Friends Railcard you will know exactly what I’m
I start getting ready for Christmas in October, so you won’t be shocked to know that I like to know what to expect on a festive family day out. If you have a similar mindset and are thinking about a trip to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour with your resident Harry Potter fans, these are the things you need to know: You Need to Book Ahead Unlike standard London attractions where you can simply turn up and buy a ticket, you absolutely need to pre-book your studio tour, as entry to
With over 27 million tourists visiting every year, London is undoubtedly one of the most popular cities of Europe. It is no surprise that this once Roman city tops the list of tourists’ travel plans. The rich history and outstanding culture of London has thrived over the years and with some of the world’s best shopping, entertainment, dining, art and history, it is just impossible to get bored of the city. If you are planning a trip to London, here we have listed the top things you must do to
A Special Family Weekend in London We are huge fans of taking the kids on London city breaks, and it’s made so much easier by the fact that taking the train from Nottingham is really convenient for us. The kids love a train journey anyway, and it always makes travelling a little bit easier for us as a family. As long as we have plenty of snacks, drinks and activities to keep the children busy you can always be guaranteed a fairly smooth trip journey to the capital by train.
We wondered whether we were being led down a rabbit hole when google maps pointed us in the direction of a rather unassuming street in Mayfair in search of Mr Fogg’s Residence. This was to be the last stop for our theatre weekend in London and we certainly wanted to end on a high note. We waited patiently with the other guests outside Mr Fogg’s Residence for the clock to strike 3.01pm. There was definitely a buzz in the air, as we all waited eagerly to find out what was inside.
Going out for dinner is without a doubt one of my favourite things to do, so it simply had to feature during our recent theatre weekend in London. My sister and I were very excited to be invited to Shikumen in Aldgate to sample their highly acclaimed Chinese food on Saturday evening. The Shikumen restaurant is about a 10 minute walk from Tower Pier so I would strongly recommend taking a trip down the Thames with City Cruises to get there. We caught the boat just as it was getting
I’m a firm fan of having something to look forward to in January, so I was delighted when Super Break asked us if we would like to try a London Theatre Break from their website. January is a pretty dull month after all the Christmas celebrations so it was lovely to have a short city break on the horizon. When I’m at home working or looking after the children, my life is all about routine. It keeps everything on an even keel and when it comes to day to day
We decided it would be a great idea to begin our Hamburg city break adventure with a London Stansted Hotel. We are huge fans of Holiday Inn Express and with such an early flight planned, staying in an airport hotel with kids always makes things go a little bit smoother. We arrived at tea time and we were able to leave the car in the car park straight outside the hotel entrance. We unpacked, but of course it didn’t matter if we forgot something in the first run or decided
When you have a busy weekend in London planned, choosing where to stay is very important for enjoying your city break. I’m a person who enjoys having lots of space and plenty of creature comforts around me when I’m travelling and I have found that self catering apartments from FG Properties are a great option for staying in the city. Why Did We Stay in an Apartment? Kaz from Ickle Pickles Life and Travels and I have stayed in London together a couple of times now, and when we do,
I love afternoon tea. It’s the perfect way to spend time with friends, celebrate a special occasion or just treat yourself to a little decadent luxury. I visit local cafes with friends and family regularly, but there is something very extra special about going to The Waldorf Hilton Hotel for afternoon tea that leaves the rest behind. Myself, and a group of my favourite bloggers were invited to The Waldorf to start our Britmums Live weekend with them. It certainly got things off on the right foot and you can
We made some lovely memories as a family on our recent weekend trip to London which you might have seen on the blog recently. I thought it would be a good idea to round up our experience incase you were looking for some inspiration to plan a trip to London with your family. We travel regularly with our 3 and 5 year old daughters, and it definitely comes with some challenges. They clash regularly and have a tendency to become over excitable, but we feel that they are learning something valuable about their
Tower Bridge is one of the most iconic sights on the River Thames with it’s imposing gothic towers and mighty suspension cables. It’s a must see London attraction for anyone visiting the city and it certainly left a big impression on us during our visit. It’s a stones throw from the Tower of London so we caught a glimpse of the bridge when we first arrived in Tower Hill. I was really excited for our visit after seeing it from across the water. My husband was feeling a little more nervous
Going to Buckingham Palace is probably on every travel itinerary for tourists who are visiting London, especially for the first time. The Royal Mews is just next door but is probably a less visited attraction, which I think is a real shame. During our family weekend at Hilton London Canary Wharf I really wanted to show the girls, aged 5 and 3 years old, where the Queen lived. Buckingham Palace London is an incredibly British institution, and I wanted to introduce Indie and Brook to one of the most iconic
After arriving in London for the weekend, we headed straight towards the Tower of London on the underground. It was a great place to start our weekend itinerary and it was actually a first for the whole family. As we came out of Tower Hill Tube Station we were greeted with a view of the historic Royal building and it really made us feel excited about what was in store. We arrived at lunch time, so we had to stop to feed the kids first. There are plenty of restaurants near to
Taking young children on a city break is not with out challenges, but the rewards far outweigh the hurdles you have to overcome. Staying at the Hilton London Canary Wharf is definitely a good place to consider if you want a successful city break with kids. Our children are 3 and 5 years old, and they had an amazing short break when we stayed with Hilton Hotels recently. As parents, we also got some much deserved down time too, thanks to picking a great hotel to stay in. Stay in
When your planning a holiday with friends or family, sometimes staying at an airport hotel is a sure fire way to get your trip off on the right foot. You might have heard that I went to Iceland recently, and we were flying from London Gatwick Airport. Our flight was at 7am in the morning, so staying at the Sofitel London Gatwick was an ideal way to start our holiday. I was able to drive to London Gatwick Airport from Nottingham at a leisurely pace the day before our trip,
The Easter holidays always cause a bit of a dilemma in our household. Taking place half way between the festive fun of the Christmas break the long summer holidays, finding days out that the whole family can enjoy seems to get more difficult every year. Luckily, there are plenty of experiences in and around the capital that are sure to keep everyone happy and no one should be put off experiencing them in the light of recent events. Sample the Sweetness of an Easter Chocolate Workshop Nothing says Easter quite
My husband and I have been talking about where to stay in London with the kids for a while now. We want to take them both on a sightseeing tour as we know they will both enjoying seeing the what the city has to offer. Princess loves to visit London, but we always have an event to attend and very limited time actually exploring. We have been looking for a hotel close to the popular tourist attractions that the kids will enjoy staying in, and will be comfortable for us
Kew Gardens is a beautiful open space in Richmond Upon Thames, South West London. A while a go, the girls and I were invited to visit Kew Gardens for the day by The Original Muck Boot Company. I was really excited to take the girls to Kew Gardens to explore, as it was a place that none of us had visited. Kew Gardens attracts all kinds of visitors as it’s a beautiful place, full of iconic buildings and rare and significant plants. It also attracts lots of families who enjoy open
Holiday Inn Express very kindly invited us to stay at their London Stansted Hotel when we returned from our short city break to Venice. Our flight from Venice Treviso Airport wasn’t due to arrive at London Stansted Airport until 11.40pm in the evening, so the thought of driving back to Nottingham at that time seemed an incredibly unsafe thing to do. I’m no spring chicken and I value my sleep, especially after spending the day exploring Venice, making a mad dash to the airport bus stop, and being slightly delayed
When you are trying to book a city break for a girlie weekend, and you live in different parts of the country, things can get a little complicated. I was planning a trip with a friend of mine who lives in London, and there was definitely a point where we looked like we might not pull it off. Not one to be deterred, I was confident there was a way to make things a lot easier for ourselves.
London is constantly changing, ever evolving and has so much to offer, which makes choosing things to do and eat in a quick twenty-four hour time-frame pretty tough. As a regular visitor to the city, I wanted this 24hrs visit to be a bit different, even a little quirky. This would be a rare child free twenty-fours for us, and these are the plans that made the final cut. Feeling very footloose and fancy free, here’s what we crammed into our short visit to London.
When I was recently invited to the Dorchester Hotel by ASDA Little Angels, I was not only excited to hear about everything that was going on with the brand, but also about getting the chance to see what life was like inside the Dorchester. Who wouldn’t be, it’s one of the most iconic luxury hotels in London, right.
Princess and I have been to London to find out all about what is happening this summer with Thomas & Friends at the beautiful Waldorf Hilton Hotel. We were both very exited as we boarded the train for the big city. Princess loves Thomas The Tank Engine, so she was really looking forward to the party at Palm Court. I was looking forward to afternoon tea but also getting a sneak peek inside one of London’s famous luxury hotels. We headed to Aldwych after a slow stroll through Covent Garden.
Jamie’s Italian heard that Kaz and I were going to be staying in London for Britmums Live and very kindly invited us to the restaurant in Angel to try out the Super Lunch menu. Kaz had never been to Jamie’s Italian before so I was really looking forward to seeing what she thought of it. I was also looking forward to the chance to catch up with her over a lovely meal before heading off to the Holiday Inn Fringe Party in Camden Town.
There are so many options for places to stay in London that you really can find the perfect place to suit your needs. London has everything from budget hotels, b & b’s, luxury hotels to gorgeous serviced apartments. Kaz from Ickle Pickle’s Life And Travels and myself were heading to London for the weekend to go to Britmums Live and it was the perfect opportunity for us to catch up without our families in tow. So that we could make a weekend of it, Kaz found us the perfect place to
Is it worth going on the London Eye at night? That was the question I asked myself when I visited London for a weekend break last month. The London Eye is open until 9pm at night, and I was keen to see what the experience would be like in the dark. Can you still have a memorable experience when the lights have gone out over London? I waited for my friend to join me on a very wet and dark night in December. She was at work during the day so
