Toys

This advertisement feature was written in collaboration with LEGO City When we received an invitation to the attend the LEGO City Hero Academy event at the London Transport Museum I knew that myself and the girls had to attend.  They both already love LEGO just as much as their older brother did when he was growing up, which I simply adore.  LEGO has made huge strides in appealing to girls and boys with a number of its collections, and it’s a toy that is going to be enjoyed in our house

If you are planning a holiday or vacation with kids, having some travel toys in your hand luggage, suitcase or travel bag is going to help things go a lot more smoothly.  Kids have a pretty short attention span for travelling so having the best travel toys to hand during your trip can really help keep boredom at bay.  Nobody wants a stressful journey, so whether it’s travel toys for toddlers or best travel toys for babies you are looking for, this list of toys, games and ideas will help you

The girls have wanted their own Glimmies toys for a long time now so when we received an email asking us if we would like to review the Glimmies Rainbow Friends Toy, of course I said yes.  If the Glimmies toys haven’t hit your radar yet they are little magical fairy creatures that have been sent by the moon to look after the animals that live in Glimmieswood.  Take a quick peek at the Glimmies amazon page and check them out. There are 12 Glimmies Rainbow Friends toys to collect  and

With my 3 year old daughter having to spend two weeks at home after her recent operation, we have very much been in the market for some new toys to keep her busy.  When I received an email asking for us to take a look at the Tinsy Winsy Weeny Tot Dolls, I thought they looked perfect for her and her sister. We received 2 really cute Tinsy Winsy Weeny Tot Dolls and the Bedtime Accessory Playset to take a look at, and the girls fell in love with them from

We have had such a lovely year being one of the #PLAYMOBILPlayologist’s and it ended on a real high in this house.  My daughter received the Playmobil Country Pony Farm Set just in time for her 5th birthday and it made for a perfect present for her.  She loved the advent calendar she received at Christmas and the hospital set was a huge hit so we were pretty sure this was going to go down just as well.  If anyone asks us for present ideas for a 5 year old, we know we can

I’m sure if you have school aged children you will have heard that it was British Science Week between 10th and 19th March.  There were plenty of activities going off at my daughters school but we wanted some cool ways to bring it to life at home as well.  Wherever there is science, you can be sure that Project Mc2 are never far away and they have a great range of experiments for children to use at home.  We were lucky enough to be sent the Project Mc2 H2O Nail Science Kit

When our Puppy Surprise toy arrived I knew the girls would be so excited about welcoming Taffy and her new family into their toy collection.  Taffy arrived in a pet carrier type box which was a lovely touch.  One of her puppies was already on display but the big question was how many more did she have in her litter?  The girls guessed our Puppy Surprise had 5 puppies all together, but were they right? Taffy is a very bright and colourful pet dog to add to your toy collection.

When I was growing up I remember having a Scalextric set.  I think it was to keep my Dad happy as much as me, but it definitely worked on both counts.  We loved racing the cars round the track back in the day, so when I was offered a My First Scalextric for the girls to review, I had to say yes.  I think it’s so important for them to have a variety of toys to try and keep a balance to those gender stereotypes we can soon find ourselves

Toys play a huge part in our children’s lives helping them to learn and grow.  As parents, we want to get the toys we give our children right, giving them something to play with that will create lasting memories.  Think back to when you were a child.  What was your most memorable Christmas toy?  There might be a few on the list if you cast your mind back.  Perhaps you had a train track that Santa left for you that you have fond memories of.  Maybe it was a particular

For those of you not already in the know, Doc McStuffins is a six year old girl who ‘fixes’ toys, with a little help from her stuffed animal friends, Stuffy, Hallie, Lambie and Chilly. This year, Doc has been transported to McStuffinsville to become the Chief Resident of the Toy Hospital, where she and her toy friends will help toys from all over the world! Doc McStuffins Toy Hospital Bag Set The girls love dottie Doc McStuffins and were recently sent the new Doc McStuffins Hospital Bag set to play with and

We have literally got the best toy for any Bing fans out there to share with you today.  Both my daughters really enjoy Bing on CBeebies, and I’m pretty sure they aren’t the only ones.  For anyone not in the know Bing Bunny, and his friends are curious preschoolers learning all about the world around them in each episode.  The adventures are so relatable for little ones as they deal with the things that happen in little children’s everyday life, like how to share and going to the toilet!  Yes,

My daughters are huge fans of animals, and in particular they love dogs.  They got a little bit excited when they heard that we were going to be reviewing the Pet Parade Family and the Pet Parade Scooter sets by Flair.  These toys are awesome as you don’t need any batteries.  They are small, but have lots of cool features and they give children the chance to care for their own pet, without all the drama of having a real dog.

Sofia the First was a normal girl until her mother, Miranda, became engaged to King Roland II of Enchancia. Sofia then went from a simple peasant existence, to a life full of magical adventures as a Disney Princess.  Sofia the First is one of my daughters favourite characters.  I think she is the perfect character for little girls to relate to with her ‘normal’ background, love of animals and sense of adventure.  I know this little girl really loves her!

When Little Pudding turned two we made a really big mistake.  We bought her a balance bike, thinking it would be great for her to be able to practice on ready for a getting a big girls bike.  Well, unfortunately, she really didn’t get on very well with it, and it became quite apparent she was’t quite ready for that stage just yet.  Fortunately, shortly after, I was introduced to the Toddlebike, the pre balance bike for toddlers which sounded perfect for her and we’ve been very busy in the

Sshh! Don’t tell anyone, but I’m planning a special surprise for my girls this week.  On Thursday 28th July, we are having a very special Go Jetters Party and you can join in the fun too!  My girls love the Go Jetters, and all the exciting adventures they go on travelling the world so I know this is going to be such a fun event for them. The invitations have been sent, and their very best friends are going to be joining them to play games and of course share lots

Things got really exciting in this house this week when my children and I got a sneak peek of the new toys from The Lion Guard.  For those of you not in the know, The Lion Guard is a Disney Junior show about Kion.  Kion is Simba’s youngest child and is set to follow in his Father’s footsteps in protecting the Pride Lands from their enemies.  Simba was of course famous for The Lion King movie, which has proved to be a firm favourite with Disney Fans for many years.

Toys are a really big deal in this house.  We sacrifice a minimal looking living space in favour of stepping on bricks and drowning in mountains of toys that the kids love.  If you follow my blog you’ll know a fair amount of toys get featured on Zena’s Suitcase, and that’s because they make the girls happy.

Hey Duggee is also on my daughter’s list of favourite CBeebies shows.  She’s such a huge animal lover, Hey Duggee and the rest of the characters really appeal to her.  If you’ve not caught up with this show yet, Hey Duggee is all about the Squirrel club and is aimed at preschoolers.  It’s similar to an after school club, and reminds me a lot of cubs or brownies.  The Squirrels have to learn skills and solve problems and in return they earn a Hey Duggee badge.

Bizzy Bitz is a great new construction toy that landed on our doorstep here at Zena’s Suitcase a few weeks ago.   The great thing about blogging is it gives me the opportunity to expose my children to a wide range of toys, and share with you the very best of what’s on the toy market coming up to Christmas.  It’s also taught me a thing or two about what my children really like to play with.

Orchard Toys recently got in touch with us to see if we would like to try out some of their range of games. We already have a few Orchard Toys games and puzzles, but I hadn’t realised that they are all made from 100% recycled materials and are manufactured in Britain. When I realised this I knew it was a brand I wanted to feature on Zena’s Suitcase.

My Friend Freddy Bear has recently joined my 3 year old’s toy collection, and she has spent the last couple of weeks getting to know him.  Freddy Bear already knew her though.  He knew her name, who her best friends were and lots of other things about her before he arrived.  He isn’t just any old bear, he really is her new best friend.
