Everyone in the family was super excited about visiting the Eden Project during our Cornwall road trip. For many years I’ve wanted to tick Eden Project, Cornwall’s most famous and iconic attraction, off my UK bucket list.  During our Cornwall holiday I found out my husband felt the same way.  The kids asked ‘what is the Eden Project’, and seeing as I’d found the best explanation on the Eden Project website, I told them ‘it’s the largest rainforest in captivity’, as well as some other interesting botanical components of course!

During our family holiday in Cornwall we decided to spend some time exploring the beautiful town of Falmouth.  Falmouth’s heritage has been largely shaped by it’s relationship with the sea and as such it’s the obvious home for the UK’s National Maritime Museum.  It made perfect sense for us to take the girls here to learn a little more about the highs and lows of living so close to the Atlantic Ocean and they were really excited about spending the day here to learn more about life in Cornwall. Is The

Our week in Cornwall really brought it home to me that great holiday vibes are right on our doorstep and there are a few things that make a trip in the UK very special indeed.  One box we certainly have to tick when travelling with the kids is looking for the best fish and chips.  While we were in Cornwall we were invited to Harbour Lights Falmouth to check out their fish and chip restaurant. We had very much enjoyed a morning exploring the National Maritime Museum, but the kids

When I told the girls they were going to be staying on a farm in Cornwall they were over the moon.  When I said they were going to see lambs being born they literally couldn’t contain themselves and I knew our stay at The Olde House Cornwall was going to be a real high to the end of our Cornwall road trip. I was so happy that they were looking forward to this Cornwall farm holiday as I have really fond memories of spending time on a farm as a child.

If you want breathtaking views and an exceptional dining experience I strongly recommend that you book a table at Lewinnick Lodge during your next Cornwall holiday.  As restaurants in Newquay goes it’s probably one of the best and will tick all the right boxes if you want a special treat or have an occasion to celebrate during your trip. That’s a pretty bold opening statement but that’s how impressed we were with both the food and the location of this restaurant and luxury bed and breakfast in Newquay.  I strongly

As well as being an incredibly beautiful county, Cornwall also prides itself on offering it’s visitors some exceptional family friendly dining experiences.  With local fish and seafood in abundance many restaurants are able to offer fresh daily specials as well as their well crafted regular menus.  With lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, finding places to eat in Cornwall can start to feel overwhelming so I want to share with you our experience of family dining at Sharksfin in Mevagissey during our recent Cornwall break. Cornwall is an

While we were exploring Cornwall on our recent UK road trip we had the pleasure of spending a few days in Porthleven in the west of the county. Porthleven probably has the most impressive harbour in Cornwall and is beautiful with it so well worth a visit if you are in the area. We were staying with Porthleven Holiday Cottages for 2 nights in one of the Jeroba cottages directly overlooking the fishing boats in the harbour. We really felt in the middle of all the activity to be honest.

The Sands Hotel Resort & Spa near Newquay, Cornwall ticks a lot of boxes for families looking for a kid friendly resort for their holiday. Just imagine being sandwiched between rolling hills with open fields and stunning costal views for a start.  I bet you’re feeling relaxed just thinking about it aren’t you?  Well that’s exactly what you’ll get when you arrive at Sands Resort Hotel and Spa for your family holiday. The Sands Hotel Newquay has excellent facilities and prides itself on its family friendly service.  Both of these things,

When I saw all the family friendly facilities at The Esplanade in Newquay, I absolutely had to say yes to our invite to stay at their hotel during February half term.  This was the first stop on our epic Cornwall road trip, and a very welcome end to our 6 hour drive from Nottingham to start our holiday. We arrived at The Esplanade hotel before check in, but decided to wait in the Pebbles Bar until our room was ready.  They serve bar food between 12pm and 6pm in the bar

Before our visit to Pirates Quest in Newquay, I thought I had best prepare the girls for what might lie ahead.  As they are only 3 and 5 years old, they do find some things scary and I didn’t want this to spoil their experience at this Cornwall attraction. We talked about how pirates wore different clothes and maybe even looked a bit dirty long ago.  Some of the history that surrounds pirates is of course fact, but it was easier to tell the girls that the Pirates Quest experience

We wondered whether we were being led down a rabbit hole when google maps pointed us in the direction of a rather unassuming street in Mayfair in search of Mr Fogg’s Residence.  This was to be the last stop for our theatre weekend in London and we certainly wanted to end on a high note. We waited patiently with the other guests outside Mr Fogg’s Residence for the clock to strike 3.01pm.  There was definitely a buzz in the air, as we all waited eagerly to find out what was inside.

Going out for dinner is without a doubt one of my favourite things to do, so it simply had to feature during our recent theatre weekend in London.  My sister and I were very excited to be invited to Shikumen in Aldgate to sample their highly acclaimed Chinese food on Saturday evening.  The Shikumen  restaurant is about a 10 minute walk from Tower Pier so I would strongly recommend taking a trip down the Thames with City Cruises to get there.  We caught the boat just as it was getting

I’m a firm fan of having something to look forward to in January, so I was delighted when Super Break asked us if we would like to try a London Theatre Break from their website.  January is a pretty dull month after all the Christmas celebrations so it was lovely to have a short city break on the horizon. When I’m at home working or looking after the children, my life is all about routine.  It keeps everything on an even keel and when it comes to day to day

Cornwall is a really beautiful part of the world, and we are going to be spending half term getting to know the area a little bit better.  I’ve been very busy putting out travel plans together and I’ve found the very best activities to keep the kids entertained, even when the weather is plotting against us. It could well rain during our holiday, but I’m determined that the weather will not stop us enjoying our family holiday in Cornwall.  There’s actually plenty to see and do in the area, even

Having discovered what a beautiful part of the world Devon is this year when I visited with Indie I am desperate to go back with the rest of the family next year.  I know that Brook will love the outdoors experiences as much as we did and the OH is always happy when we don’t have to fly.  As we want to visit for a family holiday this time round I’m already scouting out Devon holiday cottages for us to stay in to give us more room and flexibility. Once

When it comes to keeping teenagers entertained, we know it can be a bit of a challenge. It’s inevitable, unfortunately, that they’ll grow out of the activities that used to get them excited and the adventures that used to get them bouncing out of bed on the weekends soon become a thing of the past.  Help is on hand with this list of things to do with teenagers in Bristol and Cardiff, so we will have you enjoying a family day out again in no time. Chances are you’ve been

We decided it would be a great idea to begin our Hamburg city break adventure with a London Stansted Hotel.  We are huge fans of Holiday Inn Express and with such an early flight planned, staying in an airport hotel with kids always makes things go a little bit smoother. We arrived at tea time and we were able to leave the car in the car park straight outside the hotel entrance.  We unpacked, but of course it didn’t matter if we forgot something in the first run or decided

On the day well left Camp Katur and our little Hobbit House on the Camp Hill Estate we decided we would go and explore Hackfall Woods near Masham.  We thought it would be a nice idea to take a little walk before the 3 hour drive back to Nottingham. Now, it’s safe to say that I didn’t do my research very well and I didn’t really know what I was letting myself and my 5 year old daughter in for when we pulled into the tiny carpark near Masham.  I thought we

When you have a busy weekend in London planned, choosing where to stay is very important for enjoying your city break. I’m a person who enjoys having lots of space and plenty of creature comforts around me when I’m travelling and I have found that self catering apartments from FG Properties are a great option for staying in the city. Why Did We Stay in an Apartment? Kaz from Ickle Pickles Life and Travels and I have stayed  in London together a couple of times now, and when we do,

I love afternoon tea.  It’s the perfect way to spend time with friends, celebrate a special occasion or just treat yourself to a little decadent luxury.  I visit local cafes with friends and family regularly, but there is something very extra special about going to The Waldorf Hilton Hotel for afternoon tea that leaves the rest behind. Myself, and a group of my favourite bloggers were invited to The Waldorf to start our Britmums Live weekend with them.  It certainly got things off on the right foot and you can

Is it possible to feel like you have had a proper getaway by just spending 24 hours at a hotel?  We visited the Belfry Hotel & Resort in Birmingham for an overnight stay in the summer to find out if it could be done and here’s how we got on. Myself and all three kids packed into the car and took the 50 minute drive from Nottingham to Sutton Coldfield on the outskirts of Birmingham where The Belfry is located.  This was going to be the only holiday we took with

Have you ever wanted to stay in a Hobbit Hide?  I think it’s definitely a dream for most Lord of the Rings fans, and it’s definitely possible at Camp Katur! Glamping has made a really big impact on the outdoor holiday scene and we’ve been trying it out for size on Zena’s Suitcase.  We were lucky enough to be invited to stay in a Hobbit style earth pod at Camp Katur in North Yorkshire recently, and we were very surprised at how comfortable our little Hobbit hide was. My daughter

Bath is a beautiful city in England and there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t enjoy a family visit here with children.  These things to do in Bath with kids will inspire you and your little ones to enjoy the very best of what this historic UK city has to offer. Bath had been on my list of UK cities to visit for many years, and I finally got to visit with my 5 year old daughter for a 2 day city break in the summer. We were on the look

If you want to make the most of a quick road trip, it’s a good idea to plan somewhere to visit on the way to your destination.  We decided to visit Brimham Rocks on our recent weekend trip to North Yorkshire, and felt that the best way to share our experience was in photos. The weather was on our side that day, but sadly the traffic was not.  As it was bank holiday weekend, there was heavy traffic around Leeds Festival, but we still managed to spend most of the

Buckland Abbey is just a few minutes drive from the Moorland Garden Hotel and very close to Yelverton, so it’s a perfect family day out if you are visiting Devon.  As you may remember from our review of the hotel, we had to postpone our visit to Buckland Abbey due to the rain.  After spending a day relaxing at the hotel, we were certainly ready to get started again and were very much looking forward to seeing which moor otter we were going to meet and learn more about Buckland

We reached the Moorland Garden Hotel in Devon on a complete high.  It was the final hotel on our moor otter spotting tour and we had just come from the nearby town of Yelverton.  Our excitement stemmed from our visit to The Rock Inn.  During our otter spotting escapades we would try and guess which otter we were going to find next.  My daughter thought this was so much fun and it added a little more excitement to our endeavours. As we entered the car park for The Rock Inn

During our visit to Devon this summer we were invited to the Two Bridges Hotel which can be found in the very heart of the exceptionally beautiful Dartmoor National Park.  It’s also the sister hotel of The Bedford Hotel, where we also had the pleasure of staying for the night during our visit to Tavistock. On arrival, we drove over the bridge that leads towards the characteristically white buildings of the hotel in anticipation, wondering how the Two Bridges Hotel would compare to the Bedford Hotel which had made such a big impression

I was really inspired by how much fun my daughter and I had on our road trip around the south of England this summer.  Travelling with kids can be a fantastic experience for the whole family, but how you approach it can make all the difference.  We very much enjoyed spotting otters in Devon, and this really helped us to explore and enjoy the area of Dartmoor.  Cornwall is another very beautiful part of the UK, and it’s somewhere I’m really keen to visit with all the family for a

We had been looking forward to arriving at the Bedford Hotel in Tavistock for a few days by the time we checked in.  We had been camping at a festival over the weekend, and the lack of hot showers and mud had finally got to us.  We began to fill with excitement as sat nav announced we had arrived at the Bedford Hotel in Devon and got parked in the hotel carpark as quickly as we could.  A car has never been unpacked quite so quickly, and my daughter and

Have you heard of the Moor Otters Trail? If you are visiting Devon this summer then it’s a great way to explore the Dartmoor area and have some fun with the kids while you’re at it.  If you’ve been following my Twitter account, you’ll know my 5 year old daughter and I went to Dartmoor to find out more about the trail and to hunt down as many otters as we could find during our recent road trip. Over 100 otters have been designed by local and UK artists and
