We love the opportunity to pop into town, so when we were invited to review Red Dog Saloon restaurant in Nottingham I knew we couldn’t say no.  Finding good places for family dining is important to us, so we went along one Sunday with the girls to check out the restaurant. Red Dog Saloon is in a great location on Victoria Street where the Lace Market meets Hockley in Nottingham’s city centre.  It’s a stones throw from the Lace Market tram stop and there’s also a bus stop just down

Do you remember a while back that we were getting ready to send teen back to university for his second year?  Well, I’m not going to lie, there are two aspects to this change in our family that I really struggle with.  Firstly, I miss him so much when he’s gone.  I thought I would have been used to this by now, but it turns out I’m not.  Secondly, I can’t help but worry about him either.  I do wonder if we ever stop worrying about are kids, and at

Our holiday in Menorca left a big impression on us to be honest.  The main reason was because it gave us the perfect balance of fun, sight seeing and the option to visit some great local restaurants in Son Bou. We loved our stay at Royal Son Bou Family Club and we also enjoyed visiting different places in Menorca.  Because we were staying half board at Royal Son Bou Family Club, we were also able to enjoy eating out as well as at the hotel.  We found having the option to

Las Iguanas invited us to their restaurant in Nottingham this week to check out the new menus, including what’s on offer for kids.  Las Iguanas is a South American restaurant & bar that I used to visit before having the girls.  I hadn’t really thought about it being a family friendly restaurant to take kids to eat in until our visit on Sunday. The sun was shining and everyone was in a good mood so we took the girls into town.  We did a bit of shopping and played in the

We enjoy eating out as a family, and it always features on our list of things to do when we are on holiday.  During our weekend away visiting Warwick this was no exception and when we found out there was a Pizza Express just down the road from our hotel, it seemed like the perfect choice for eating out together.  We all love pizza, but there’s something about eating at Pizza Express that makes it feel like an extra special treat. I like restaurants that provide good quality food, a great

Aruba is one of the lesser known islands in the Caribbean just off the coast of Venezuela.  For some reason it’s not quite as popular as it’s neighbours in the Lesser Antilles such as Trinidad & Tobago or Antigua even though it’s just as stunning as a holiday destination.

Kiddyum got in touch a few weeks ago to see if we would be interested in testing their frozen meal range for children.  As a busy parent I do use ready prepared meals from time to time.  Sometimes the day doesn’t quite go to plan, or the grown ups are going to be eating separately, so I like to have a go to kids meal that my children will love.  With that in mind, we were definitely up for testing Kiddyum meals out at home, and here’s how we got on.

These last few weeks I’ve been back on my weight loss mission.  I’ve been sharing weekly updates of my challenges and how I’m trying to overcome them in my series, Thinking Thin.  If you’ve haven’t stopped by yet, you can catch up with all the posts right here.  I’m sure you’ll find some nuggets of inspiration, if weight is something you struggle with. One thing that has really hit me is how much we reward ourselves with food, or use it as a way of cheering ourselves up after a

If you follow my blog regularly you’ll already know we are partial to a family meal out. As it was my birthday this week, it could not go by without some family dining.  We had been invited to Millers Barn Beefeater, which was perfect timing given my birthday celebrations. Millers Barn Beefeater is situated just on the outskirts of Nottingham off Millenium Way.  It’s adjacent to the Premier Inn and a stones throw from the tram stop, making it a great location for visitors to the area.

I think one of the biggest challenges for a busy parent is providing their children with a healthy balanced diet.  It is something I struggle with almost daily along side juggling the demands of busy family life. I know when I’m at work, having just finished the 9-5, coming home and providing a good home cooked meal is sometimes just beyond me.  I have been that Mother that pops something in the oven that goes with chips and waits for it to pop out 20 minutes later.  We’ve all done,

We were lucky enough to be invited along to the launch of Brewers Fayre’s new play area along with local families and bloggers at the Castlewood restaurant in near Mansfield the other week. We were given a friendly welcome at the door, and instantly the whole family were made to feel at home.  The restaurant had a cosy feel inside, with a touch of the rustic about it giving it lots of character.  It was great that it had a large car park, there was plenty of spaces.  I like

Christmas is such an amazing time of year don’t you think?  I love all the present buying (even though I can’t say I’m too fussed about wrapping), spending time with the family and enjoying a lovely feast together.  Turkey anyone? For so many years I’ve been guilty of going overboard, with either presents or food or both!  I get hit with this last minute panic of not having enough of either and I literally go crazy!  Then we end up with a mountain of presents that take all morning to

I’ve not been writing about my weight loss journey recently as it became obvious I had become distracted.  My focus had wavered and my thoughts had been crowded by things that were making me emotional and stressed.  I am an emotional eater and when I am stressed I’m faced with an overwhelming urge to binge.  To be honest, there were a few incidents, binge incidents that is.
